Medway Print Festival 2016

This month sees the launch of the first ever Medway Print Festival, an exciting new event featuring some of the key art institutions in the Medway area. Across two weeks, 9th to 26 June, there will be exhibitions, a print fair, courses, and printmaking activities for all ages.

WayzgooseSummer2016This year’s participating venues are:

Rochester Art Gallery

INTRA
The Huguenot Museum

The Guildhall Museum

The Medway Archives

Hazelnut Press

At INTRA we’ll be kicking things off with a summer edition of our Wayzgoose Print Fair, complete with a fine array of hand printed artwork, textiles and gifts, letterpress demos where you can print your own souvenir, and our popular tombola where you can win a course for 20p!

Froinvisible-illness-printm Tuesday 14th we’ll be hosting a group exhibition of work created at the Medway Fine Printmakers studio, including the ‘invisible illness’ prints on textiles that Zara Carpenter has been working on recently. These only show up when a UV light is shined on them, they look incredible and were quite a challenge to print!

We’ve put together a programme of classes for the festival, including Drypoint Etching, Collagraph, Screen Printing, Linocut, Print Gocco, Bookbinding, and Gelli Monoprinting for families.

Have a look at the Medway Print Festival website for details of all the events taking place, or pick up a leaflet at one of the participating venues.

20:20 Print Exchange

20:20 Print Exchange started in 2009 as a project between Hot Bed Press in Salford and Red Hot Press in Southampton. Print workshops joined in by producing artworks, and then hosting exhibitions of the work from other participants across the UK. The organisers liked the format so much they quickly decided to roll it out to more print workshops. In 2010 there were 120 artists from 10 print workshops involved and in 2011 there were 257 artists from 19 print studios producing 6,425 prints!

At Boundary Wharf we have been busy bees for the past few months, producing a great diversity of prints by the lovely artists of Medway Fine Printmakers. Each artist had to produce an edition of 25 prints, measuring 20cm x 20cm, and the best part about this exchange is that you can be as creative as you like, there is no theme or subject to tie us down! So here are a few of many more prints to come.
